Project Overview
This project is focused on the successful migration of existing workloads to Azure VMware Solution (AVS), establishing a robust and scalable cloud environment. The comprehensive approach, governed collaboratively, will ensure that all business and technical requirements are met, resulting in a complete exit from current managed data centers and Broadcom licenses. Key outcomes include optimized AVS infrastructure for future growth, automated deployments via Terraform for rapid modernization, optimized reserved instance licensing, and the establishment of robust operational and disaster recovery capabilities.

Challenges Identified
Complete exit from current client-managed Data Centers and Broadcom licenses to an optimized AVS infrastructure that will scale with growth.
Automated deployments with Terraform that allow for rapid modernization, work with Microsoft to appropriately use reserved instance licenses and operational/disaster recovery.
Client leadership lacked confidence in the plan:
The client cloud strategy was slow, poorly planned, and falling behind the business objectives. The client wanted a new partner and MSFT to work together to accelerate the initiative.
How We Are Approachimg the Challenges
- Phase 1: Validating the current environment and designing the AVS infrastructure, including storage, network, and security.
- Phase 2: Deploying the AVS environment for the POC, creating and configuring clusters based on the approved design, spinning up VMs (including using Terraform for deployment), and conducting DR testing.
- Phases 3 and 4: Focus on large-scale migration of non-production and production workloads to AVS, utilizing detailed migration planning, wave grouping, and appropriate tools such as Zerto or alternatives.
The Teton Cloud Impact
Our solution assessment will lead to the following improvements:
Client will have more confidence in the effort and timeline based on detailed scoping reviews.
AVS reserved instances are procured creating landing zone capacity.
Client is now greatly accelerating the migration timelines and targeting POC completion by Feb 2026.
Client will have a scalable network, cloud, and security architecture for this migration and future workloads in Azure.
